A 27 year old professional driver has been handed a four year prison sentence for the theft of a Samsung phone worth #105,000 naira. The convict named Moses Adeniyi who committed the offence on 17 January, 2024 was sentenced by Magistrate Patrick Nwaka of The Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba, on Monday, 10th June 2024.

According to the prosecution, Moses Adeniyi had in the guise of seeking a loan from his previous workplace,(where he had been sacked) stolen a phone from the desk of another employee named Ifeanyi Okafor. The theft had been captured on the company's CCTV, a report made to the police which led to the arrest, trial and eventual conviction of the accused, Moses Adeniyi. The accused who was taken to the Court pn two counts of theft and conduct likely to breach the peace, rendered an apology to the court while seeking leniency. The magistrate struck the charge of breach of peace against Moses and handed the four year sentence on the theft count with his sentencing taking effect from the date of his initial arrest.
