The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have suspended their industrial action. The one week suspension of the joint industrial action which commenced on Monday 3rd June 2024 as a result of The Federal Government's refusal to meet the new minimum wage demand of #490,000 naira by the Congress.

The agreement between the organised unions and the federal government was reached after a 9 hour deliberation in the early hours of Tuesday 4th June, when the government proposed a minimum wage payment of any sum higher that #60,000 naira with the assurance that no worker would be victimized as a result of the industrial action. The organised strike action which lasted less than forty-eight hours, ground activities in critical sectors of the economy with schools, businesses, hospitals, and airports shut. The national grid was also shut down, plunging the nation into darkness.
