A 70 year old grandfather has been arrested by operatives of The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)in Nasarawa state for the illegal possession of cannabis weighing 5.2kg. The 70 year old man identified as Muhammadu Ibrahim who was arrested in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, is a native of the Bawakin Tofa local government area of Kano state.

In a statement signed by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, and shared on their website on Sunday 2nd June 2024, the arrest of the 70 year old drug dealer was just one arrest in a list of multiple other arrests that occurred the FCT, Nasarawa, Rivers and Katsina states. The ages of the multiple suspects ranged from 20 to 70 years old-as in the case of Muhammadu Ibrahim, as well as involving both male and female. In addition to the multiple arrests, The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has seized codeine-based syrup and Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain worth over N2.1 billion at the Port Harcourt seaports and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
