Following the new law by the Federal Government of Nigeria declaring a reversion to the country's first national anthem "Nigeria, We Hail Thee", former minister of Education, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili, has put up a post on social media firmly stating her resolve to keep using the now obsolete anthem "Arise O Compatriot". Wondering if a new national anthem was the government's priority, the former minister admonished Nigerians on our current reality with the revelation that no one is coming to us.

Obiageli Ezekwesili further questioned why the government would prefer an anthem with ethnic slurs like "native land" and "tribes" over the now legally discarded "Arise O Compatriot". Affirming her legal right to continually use her preferred anthem, the former minister and women's advocate stated referred to the new law approving the use of the old national anthem as "obnoxious and repugnant to all who are of good conscience in Nigeria."
