Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command in Nsukka, have arrested a 22 year old man dressed as a masquerade, for the physical assault of a female nurse who had been riding a motorcycle at Ugwoye Junction, Nsukka. The masquerader who was later identified as Ebube Ugwuoke, was arrested after he was captured flogging the unnamed woman in viral video filmed in April 2024 . He had repeatedly flogged her until she fell in a gutter and sustained multiple bruises.

Following his arrest, Ebube Ugwuoke was on Wednesday 22nd May, arraigned at The Nsukka Magistrate Court of Enugu State, where he was granted bail by the court. Speaking on Ebube Ugwuoke's arrest and subsequent arraignment, The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, who vehemently condemned the assault, warned members of the communities in the state intending to commit further criminal acts of physical violence against fellow citizens in the guise of cultural masquerading celebrations, to desist forthwith. The Police Commissioner stressed that the Command will henceforth, not hesitate to bring to book anyone found wanting, just as in the case of Ebube Ugwuoke.
