A man identified simply as Emeka, has been arrested alongside other members of his gang, for the alleged rape and murder of a pregnant neighbour who he had quarrelled with just a day before. According to reports, the now arrested suspect had in company of the other members of his gang, on Sunday 12 February 2023, broken into the home Mrs Chigbewejim Remember Steward shared with her husband, Pastor Lawyer Steward, and abducted the victim from her residence located in the Abarikpo community of Ahoada East Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Whisking away the 5 months pregnant Mrs Steward to an unknown location, Emeka and the members of his gang jointly and repeatedly raped her and thereafter, strangled her to death.The suspects reportedly fled the community upon receiving information that the police were on their trail following the discovery of Mrs Steward's mutilated corpse(with blood and bruises found on the vagina area) near a local fishing pond just hours after her abduction.

Speaking on his wife's gruesome rape and murder as well as the capture of the suspect, Lawyer Steward, a pastor at The Seventh Day Adventist Church in Abarikpo community, mournfully stated: Yes Emeka, masterminded the death of my wife after he quarreled with her that my wife called him a wicked man. He told my wife you will see wickedness today. And that night around 1 am February 12, 2023, those bad boys came to my house and broke the door and took my wife away. My wife was five months pregnant. Emeka and his gang raped and strangled her to death. The police arrested him on Thursday. Now he is in the police custody. I have gone to the station to give my statement."
