A helicopter conveying the Iranian president, Ebrahim Raisi, has been involved in a crash. The hard landing which occurred while the president had been visiting neighbouring country, Azerbaijan,where he opened the Qiz Qalasi and Khodaafarin dams, according to the state media. The Interior Minister said rescuers were still trying to reach the site due to the difficult weather conditions.

Reporting on the hard landing, local and international media have revealed that some of President Raisi's companions have been able to communicate with Central Headquarters, raising hopes that the incident could have ended without casualties. Raisi, Ayatollah Al Hashem Imam of Tabriz, Hossein Amir Abdollahian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Malik Rahmati Governor of East Azerbaijan and a number of other people were among the passengers on the helicopter. The helicopter was part of a convoy of three helicopters with two of them conveying ministers and officials who arrived at their destination safely.
