An estimated number of 34 people(including several children) have been declared dead with many others are missing after flash floods and cold lava flow from a volcano hit western Indonesia.The flood also left over a hundred homes and mosques in ruins after they were submerged in the water in certain districts of the country. Cold lava, also known as Lahar, is volcanic material like ash, sand and pebbles carried down a volcano’s slopes by rain.

Speaking on the disaster which hit Agam and Tanah Datar districts in West Sumatra Province at about 10:30pm on Saturday 12 May, spokesperson of the West Sumatra Disaster Agency, Ilham Wahab, revealed that in addition to the recorded deaths, there's ongoing search for at least, 16 other people. The spokesperson also affirmed that the search effort involves local rescuers, police, soldiers and volunteers.
