Filmmaker Femi Adebayo Awarded 25 Million Naira Compensation by Court

Nollywood actor, producer and filmmaker, Femi Adebayo, has been awarded the sum of 25 million naira in damages by a Lagos High Court for the unlicensed use of his film ‘Jelili’ by a video streaming channel.  According to the actor and filmmaker, a Nollywood movie streaming channel had used his film titled ‘Survival of Jelili’ to promote their YouTube platform(which illegally amassed millions of view as a result of the pirated content) without his consent. Following the discovery, he had sought legal redress against the film pirates.

Taking to his official Instagram account to announce his legal victory, Femi Adebayo thanked his legal team, Bola Adebowale & Co Legal Practitioners, for their relentless dedication to his fight against piracy as well as their expertise. The actor further highlighted the various negative impact of piracy on the Nigerian Film Industry as well as well as the manner in which such copyright infringement deter potential investors and hinder industry growth.
