The attempted church shooting was captured on livestream, and police believe Polite used the same gun to shoot his cousin.
Authorities found the victim deceased at their shared residence after family members reported the church incident.
Polite has been charged with criminal homicide and is being held in Allegheny County Jail pending arraignment.
The motive for the shootings is unclear, and Polite's history of mental illness is being investigated.
A relative of the Polite family said the shooting has left them "in total shock" and that Polite had not shown any alarming behavior recently.
Police are still trying to determine what motivated the shootings and why the gun jammed during the attempted church shooting.
