Following the collapse of a 100 foot tall billboard on the premises of a petrol statiom, Indian police have arrested the owner of the billboard, Bhavesh Bhinde, who initially fled the area after the accident. The billboard collapse which occurred on the evening Monday 13 May, after a fierce rain and dust storm, led to the deaths of 16 people in Mumbai, India, with another 75 people rescued from underneath the ruins.

The billboard's owner, 51 year old Bhavesh Bhinde, was arrested on Thursday 16 May in the tourist city of Udaipur, around 800 kilometres (497 miles) to the north, where he had been hiding in a hotel under an assumed name belonging to a relative. His arrest was confirmed by police joint commissioner Lakhmi Gautam, who also revealed that a culpable homicide case had been opened against Bhinde. Bhinde is the CEO of EGO Media Private Limited(an advertising agency) and in addition to the illegal billboard collapse case, he reportedly faces several other legal issues across police stations in the city of Mumbai.
