Iran's football federation has handed goalkeeper Hossein Hosseini a fine and one-match suspension for hugging a female fan whose hijab had fallen, deeming the gesture "unprofessional" and a violation of Islamic laws regarding contact between opposite sexes.
The incident occurred when a fan, whose hijab had fallen, approached the pitch and was confronted by security.
Hosseini intervened, gesturing for security to step back, and embraced the fan.

He was fined approximately £3,800 and banned for one game for his actions, which were deemed "beyond the legal duties of a player."
When called to explain himself, Hosseini reportedly said, "I will pay the fine, for the sake of that lady."
However, his comments may have drawn further penalty, as IRNA, Iran's official news agency, reported that Hosseini's punishment may violate existing regulations, as there is no specific law against his actions, aside from breaking Islamic rules about opposite sexes being in physical contact.
