Police Caution POS Operators Against Releasing Cash As High As ₦2.5 Million

The Delta State Police Command has issued a warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators in the state to be cautious when handling large cash transactions.

This warning comes after a recent case where kidnappers forced their victims to transfer ransom money to a POS operator, who then released the cash to the criminals.

According to SP Bright Edafe, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Delta State Police Command, releasing large amounts of money, such as N2.5 million, is dangerous and could lead to serious consequences.

Edafe advised POS operators to be vigilant and ensure that customers seeking such large transactions go to the bank for cash or use transfer services instead.

He emphasized that even the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy prohibits such huge withdrawals, and POS operators should not consider themselves above the law.

Edafe also suggested that POS operators record customers and their companions on camera to ensure genuine intentions and avoid being held culpable for conspiracy.

The police command is urging POS operators to take this warning seriously and cooperate with the authorities to prevent illegal activities and ensure public safety.
