Inmates Escape from Prison In Niger State

 An estimated 118 inmates of the Medium Security Custodial Centre located in Suleja, Niger State, have reportedly escaped the facility after a downpour which occurred on the night of Wednesday 24th April, 2024.  The news of the runaway inmates was revealed in a statement signed by the spokesperson, Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Adamu Duza, on Thursday, April 25. The Spokesperson of The Correctional Service explained that the downpour caused severe damage to the custodial centre’s infrastructure, including a breach in the perimeter fence, which allowed the inmates to escape.

While stating that about 10 of the escaped inmates had been recaptured and taken into custody, the press statement assured the public that efforts had been intensified to find the rest of the inmates. According to the statement: "The Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Francis John, wishes to assure the public that the service is on top of the situation and that they should go about their normal businesses without fear or hindrance."
