Grandmother Arrested for Holding Grandkids Hostage

 A woman identified as Fatimo Ganiyu, has been arrested by the police for allegedly locking up her grandchildren and denying food and water. The grandmother who was arrested at about 4:00pm on Wednesday 17th April in the Agodo-Egbe area of Ikotun, Lagos state, had locked up her three grandchildren (a girl and two boys) aged between two and four years, for an undetermined period of time. Some residents of the area reported the time frame to be months while others claim she had starved the children for weeks.

Confirming the incident to the press, The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundenyin, affirmed the rescue of the malnourished toddlers(who had been discovered clad only in diapers) while assuring that the children had begun receiving adequate medical attention. The Police PRO also affirmed that the grandmother was in custody while investigation regarding the hostage and starvation of the children was in progress. It remains unknown to the public why Fatimo Ganiyu chose to hold her grandchildren hostage and starve them. The whereabouts and identity of the children's parents are also undisclosed to the public.
