Magistrate Mikhail Kadiri, overseeing the investigation into the passing of Sylvester Oromoni, a student at Dowen College, Lagos, concluded on April 15 that the 12-year-old's demise was due to natural causes.
After a lengthy six-hour session, the coroner attributed Sylvester's death to parental and medical neglect, stating that he succumbed to sepsis resulting from lung and kidney infections triggered by an ankle injury.
The magistrate criticized the parents and a medical witness for failing to seek timely medical attention for Sylvester, leading to unnecessary suffering.

While clearing some Dowen College students of involvement in Sylvester's demise, he urged the school to implement stricter student monitoring protocols and recommended psychological evaluations for the five students suspected of bullying Sylvester.
Despite expressing condolences to the family and friends, Magistrate Kadiri emphasized the importance of seeking comfort in difficult times.
Sylvester passed away on November 30, 2021, prompting the Lagos State Government to close the school and initiate a coroner's inquiry following allegations of bullying and inadequate medical care made by his family.
