Nearly two years after the trial and conviction of Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James Omiyinka, better known as Baba Ijesha, for the sexual assault of a 14 year old minor(whose foster mother happens to be popular comedian, Princess), Baba Ijesha has filed an appeal challenging his 5 year prison sentence which was handed him on 14 July 2022, by Lagos state Judge, Oluwatoyin Taiwo, after a two hour hearing.
On Tuesday 23rd April 2024, a three man panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Folasade Ojo, heard Baba Ijesa’s appeal against his conviction and reserved judgment to a date to be communicated to the parties. Baba Ijesha, in his notice of appeal marked CA/LAG/CR/544/23, asked the appellate court to overturn the judgment of the lower court. His counsel Mr Kayode Olabiran, argued that the prosecution could not prove that Baba Ijesha sexually assaulted the victim. Mr Kayode Obiran also claimed that Baba Ijesha had been set up by the child's foster mother, Damilola Adekoya aka Princess, as he had been invited to act a script in her home.
