Mother Receives Life Sentence for Murder of 3 Daughters

 A 35 year old Greek female named Roula Pispirigou, was on Friday 29th March 2024, handed a life sentence by a mixed jury, for the murder of her nine year old daughter, Georgina. The now convicted  Roula is also suspected of killing her two other daughters who died in 2019 and 2021, respectively. Roula Pispirigou was convicted of murdering the 9 year old in January 2022, her first failed attempt at taking her child's life had occurred when the child had been hospitalized at the Karamandaneio Hospital in Patra the previous year. The attempt which left the child paralyzed, led to the mother administering ketamine, resulting in the child’s death at the Children’s Hospital.

In August 2022, prosecutors brought additional charges for the deaths of Roula's two younger daughters, 3 year old Malena and 6 month old Iris, pointing out at a modus operandi. Malena, Iris and first born Georgina, 9, died within a period of two and a half years under mysterious circumstances. Pispirigou, who is from western Greece, steadfastly pleaded her innocence throughout the lengthy trial which began in January 2022. Roula's story caused national outrage and saw crowds of protestors(who likened her to a modern day Medea) turn out to express their feelings.
