FG Set to Commence Distribution of Free Grains

 The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to commence the distribution of grains to Nigerians. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, while speaking to the press, stated that the distribution will commence on Friday, March 8, 2024. Revealing that Niger state would be the first state to benefit from the grain distribution with the government hoping to distribute 42,000 metric tons of garri, maize, Sorghum and millet, the minister assured that the distribution would be done in an orderly manner with support from the police, military and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in order to ensure that "the grains get to the right people in the right packages and quantities.

The pilot distribution of grains across the country is a national project that was first approved by the administration of the immediate past president, Mr Muhammadu Buhari. Taking to his official social media handle, Senator Kyari empathized with Nigerians, especially those severely  affected by the country’s challenges. He acknowledged the severity of the situation, particularly in light of recent incidents of foodstuff warehouse looting across various zones in the country.
