Akwa Ibom State Governor Launches Free Food Programme

 Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has launched a free food programme and access voucher for indigent residents of the state. The governor who revealed that the free food scheme is aimed at providing free staple food items to the poor people in Akwa Ibom, also stated that the food voucher is a key component of the Bulk Purchases Agency (BPA) Bill that was signed into law a week ago. The Free Food Voucher Programme was inaugurated by governor Eno on Tuesday 26 March 2024, at one of the biggest markets in the state, Itam market located in Itu Local Government Area.

In addition to the launch of the food vouchers which can be obtained at designated wards in the state, Governor Eno announced announced an interest–free loan wallet of N1.5 billion for traders and business owners in Akwa Ibom state. The loan facility which covers the three Senatorial Districts - Uyo, Ikot Ekpene and Eket, is to be managed by the FADAMA Micro Finance Bank.
