An estimated number of 280 pupils and teachers of the Government Secondary School and LEA Primary School located in Kuriga, Kaduna state, have been reported abducted by bandits on the morning of Thursday, 7 March, 2024. The shocking attack and subsequent abduction have triggered national outrage with Nigerians and affected individuals demanding that the government rescue the victims immediately. Visiting the school, Kaduna state governor, Senator Uba Sani expressed shock at the attack and assured the community of his commitment to the children’s safe return, vowing to establish a police station and a permanent military camp in the area.

Sani Abdullahi, a teacher at Government Secondary School Kuriga, shared the details of the abduction when Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, visited the area. In the words of the frightened teacher who managed to escape capture: “The bandits ordered us to enter the bush, so we obeyed them because they were many." Sanni Abdullahi further recounted that 187 students from the secondary school and 125 pupils from the primary school were initially taken, though 25 pupils later escaped their abductors and returned home.
