The honourable member representing Etche/Omuma Federal constituency, Rivers State, Rep. Kelechi Nwogu has clarified that there was no plan to stop sports betting by the government.
Hon Nwogu had sponsored a bill seeking to regulate lottery and betting companies in Nigeria, an action interpreted in certain quarters to connote a ban on betting.
The Rep member has now clarified his position in a press release.

Its purpose is to protect players’ rights and ensure compliance with existing regulations. I am committed to fostering responsible gambling and creating a fair and transparent industry. Let’s rely on accurate information and work together for the betterment of Nigeria. This motion is more or less protecting the right of players from being rift - off from by betting
