Members of the National Union of Tobacco and Food Beverage, have stormed the offices of The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration Control (NAFDAC), to protest the recent ban on the sales of satchet alcoholic liquor. This protest comes just one day after the Members of the Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria on Tuesday stormed the agency's offices located in Oshodi Lagos, to express their displeasure on the ban of sales of satchet alcoholic drinks.
It will be recalled that on Monday 5th February, director-general of NAFDAC Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, announced that the agency would begin an immediate enforcement of the ban on the importation, manufacture, distribution, sale, and use of alcoholic beverages in sachets, PET, and glass bottles of 200ml and below. The agency's director-general had also earlier stated that the manufacturers of the sachet liqueur had been given prior warning(with a deadline of January 31, 2024) to stop the production of the alcoholic drinks in sachets and PET bottles.
