Man Receives Life Sentence for Infecting Minor With HIV via Rape

 A man identified as Richard Saviour has been handed a life sentence for raping and infecting his wife's fourteen year old niece with the Human Immuno Deficiency Virus (HIV). The now convicted rapist was handed his sentence on Monday 30th January 2024, by Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos High Court located in Ikeja. Rendering a guilty verdict, the judge affirmed that the testimonies presented by the prosecution witnesses were consistent and truthful, despite denials from the defendant.

In an official post made on the social media platform X, The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency(DSVA) revealed that the State Counsel, Ola Azeez, provided three witnesses to prove the prosecution’s case while the convict testified in his defence during the trial. The agency also stated that as is customary practice in the stated, the convicted rapist's name, Richard Saviour, will be included in the Lagos State Government Sexual Offenders Register.
