Man Kills Coworker for Stealing His Lunch:Receives 100 Years Imprisonment

 A 25 year old man identified as Bazen Berhe, has been handed a prison sentence of 100 years for the murder of his coworker on April 17, 2021. The incident occurred at about 3:30am at a Target parking lot in Virginia where Bazen had accused the victim named Hernan Leiva, a janitor at Target, of having stolen his lunch from the office refrigerator.  The now convicted murderer had days after accusing Hernan of stealing his lunch, attacked and stabbed him multiple times  with a hammer and knives in the parking lot.

Bazen who is originally from Ethiopia, pled guilty to first degree murder in October 2023. He expressed no remorse during his sentencing on Tuesday 30th January 2024 and threatened to kill or hurt more people unless he was given the harshest possible punishment. Bazen also told the judge that he had murdered the 58 year old victim, Hernan Leiva, in "a fit of rage" because he had been experiencing trouble with the immigration authorities as a result of his inability to legally remain in the US. Bazen Berhe also apologized to Leiva’s family, saying he “would have stabbed anyone” and that the slaying was not personal to Leiva. “Even a 4 year old kid,” he said. “If anyone had gone down the steps first, I would have killed them.”
