The Anambra State Government has passed a law prohibiting the public display and sale of caskets in the state. The Anambra Burial law which was passed by the state House of Assembly on Thursday 1st February 2024, is a bid to control funeral and interment activities in Anambra state. In a social media post made by governor of the state, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the Anambra Burial law is a "progressive law to remove the burden and pressure on the poor as well as liberate women from oppressive practices during burials."

In Accordance with the new law, all mortuary attendants are to report to the Ministry of Health on any corpse that has remained in the mortuary beyond two month from the date it was deposited or death of date. The law also warned that any person who contravenes the provisions will give a prison of six months or made to pay a fine of one hundred thousand naira (#100,000) or both. The law further mandates that all burial and funeral ceremonies of indigenous deceased persons in the state shall be registered with the town union of the deceased.
