The love of Mark Soeson's life happens to his grandfather's 103 year old widow, Elfriede Ritt, with whom he has been in a relationship since 2013. Elfriede Ritt who is set to turn 104 years old this February, lived with Mark Soeston from 2013 until 2022 when she was forced to move to a nursing home in Australia, hence his desire to obtain permanent residency in the country. Elfriede Ritt is the second wife turned widow of Mark's grandfather and Mark has stated that despite the 55 year age difference between him and his grandfather's widow, their relationship started slowly and turned into "a very loving and meaningful relationship". The lovebirds first met in 1996 when Mark travelled to Australia to study in English and she was at the time, grieving his grandfather's death.

Mr Soeson(who is a lawyer by profession) has now taken his case to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal which he attended on Wednesday, Jan. 31, with Ms Riit and three supporters to have the matter heard. That hearing did not go ahead at the tribunal’s Sydney office because Ms Riit, who Mr Soeson had carried from a Maxi Cab to a wheelchair, was too distressed to take part in the proceedings.
