Beninese-born Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, professionally known as Ayra Starr, has been dragged by netizens for her perceived disrespect of legendary musician, Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, better known as King Sunny Ade. Netizens lampooned the Gen Z singer for extending her hands in handshake towards the king of juju music whom she had met at an event. Ayra Starr was also accused of having snubbed mother of fellow singer Burna Boy, who had also been present at the event.

Responding to critics and netizens, Ayra Starr put up a post on her social media handle extending her apology to King Sunny Ade for her "disrespect". She also informed her trolls that her nervousness and poor lighting had caused her distraction as she had meant no disrespect whatsoever to the elderly musician. Ayra Starr emphasized her being a "proper Yoruba girl" while stating that the video had been misleading as she had in fact, extended her greetings to Burna Boy's mother before the video recording had started.
