Newborn Stolen From Specialist Hospital

 An newborn baby boy has been reported stolen by an unknown individual from the postnatal ward of the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital located in Lafia, Nassarawa state. The incident of baby theft took place on Tuesday 9th January 2023, just a few hours after the baby was delivered via Caesarean section. Speaking to the press, mother of the missing newborn, Mrs Wosilat Suleiman, revealed that her relative who had been acting as her postpartum caregiver, had left the hospital for a few hours to pick up some essentials and had left the newborn and his mother in the care of a random woman she met at the hospital. Mrs Suleiman further stated that the stranger told her she needed to give the baby a bath and disappeared with the child.

Reacting to the incident, management of the specialist hospital expressed regret that the baby theft occurred despite strict security measures put in place in the facility to protect patients and staff. The hospital’s Acting Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, Dr Mohammed Salihu, said it was the first time such theft was witnessed in the hospital. Salihu promised that management would review the CCTV footage in the hospital and if necessary, provide the authorities with needed information to aid the culprit's arrest.
