Newly Sworn Governor Declares 3 Day Mourning Period on Akeredolu's Demise

 The newly sworn governor of Ondo State, Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared a three day mourning period in honour of deceased governor, Olurotimi Akeredolu.  The slated mourning period was contained in a press statement on in Akure by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor. According to the release, this period of mourning, with fasting and prayer, takes effect from Thursday, December 28, to Saturday, December 30, 2023. In addition to the mourning period, Governor Aiyedatiwa ordered that all flags be flown at half mast in honour of the deceased.

Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu was a Nigerian lawyer and politician who served as governor of Ondo State from 24 February 2017 until his death on 27 December 2023 at the age of 67. The  deceased governor who had been receiving treatment in Germany, died in his sleep after a protracted battle with prostate cancer. Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was survived by his wife, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu with whom he had four children as well as grandchildren.
