"Gay Couples Should be Stoned" Burundi's President Declares

 Burundi's President Evariste Ndayishimiye, in a vitriolic attack against homosexuals, has declared that gay couples should be publicly stoned. Describing homosexuality as an "abominable practice", Burundi's president also berated other European countries for permitting gay rights and for pressuring other countries to embrace these rights. Responding to a reporter's question, Mr Ndayishimiye, a staunch Catholic, said powerful nations "should keep" their aid if it comes with an obligation to give rights to homosexuals.

Describing the treatment he thinks ought to be meted homosexual people, President Ndayishimiye stated: "Personally, I think if we see these kind of individuals in Burundi we should put them in a stadium and stone them. And it would not be a sin for those who do." The aggrieved president also warned Burundians resident abroad who "have chosen to the devil" by deciding to practise homosexuality, to "not come back" .
