President of The Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Joe Ajaero, has reportedly been arrested in Owerri, capital city of Imo state. According to information supplied the press by Head of Information of The Congress Benson Upah, Joe Ajaero was picked up at the state secretariat of the congress and taken to a yet unknown location by heavily armed operatives of The Nigeria Police Force who arrived the NLC secretariat in company of thugs who unleashed mayhem on members of the Congress who tried to protest their president's manhandling.
In response to their president's strange arrest, members of the congress have vowed to commence a total strike action in Imo state in the later hours of today Tuesday, 1st November 2023. During a press briefing on Sunday 29th October, the now arrested Joe Ajaero accused the Imo State Government of “violating the rights of the Nigerian workers in the state.” He had also accused governor of Imo state Hope Uzodinma of neglecting people's welfare and owing salaries of up to 42 months. In a press release signed by the general secretaries of The NLC and TUC, the unions accused Governor Uzodinma of intimidation and thuggery while pointedly accusing of being behind Joe Ajaero's arrest which they labelled "an abduction".
