Imo State Government Extends Teachers' Retirement Age to 65 Years

 Governor of Imo State Hope Uzodimma, has signed into law, a bill extending the retirement age of teachers in the state. The new law increased the retirement age of teachers in Imo state from 60 to 65 years or 40 years in active service. The governor who signed the age extension bill into law on Wednesday 22nd November, praised the State House of Assembly for their foresight in passing the legislation.

The governor observed the new law would motivate teachers in the state’s public schools, urging them to be more committed and serious with their jobs. Governor Hope Uzodimma revealed that the point of the age adjustment was to encourage the teachers to have a sense of job security and be more effective and efficient in discharging their duties. In the governor's words: "Having given the teachers an extra five years, they are expected to bring out their time and work harder to give Imo children the best form of teaching and learning and graduate them as the best in Nigeria.”
