There was a diplomatic drama on Thursday when the dog of the 🇲🇩 Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, overturned protocol by biting the visiting 🇦🇹 Austrian president, Alexander Van der Bellen, on the hand.
The incident happened when Maia Sandu and Alexander Van der Bellen were strolling in the courtyard of the Moldovan presidential residence in the capital, Chișinău.
Moldovan media reports that Van der Bellen had tried to pet the dog when the little creature bit it.
President Sandu apologised, noting that the dog named Codrut became frightened by the large numbers of people nearby.

The Austrian president was later seen his hand bandaged when he met with the speaker of the Moldova's parliament.
Van der Bellen on a video posted to Instagram on Friday, sympathised with the dog.
“Everyone who knows me knows I’m a big dog lover and can understand his excitement,” he wrote, adding that his meeting with Sandu and other officials had been “very good”.
Van der Bellen added that he had given the dog a small toy on the last day of his visit.
