Video: Wizkid Buries Mum; Fellow Musicians Conspicuously Absent

 Nigerian singer and songwriter Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid, has laid his mum to rest today 13th October 2023. The deceased, Mrs Juliana Morayo Balogun, passed away at about 1:30am on Friday 18th August. The funeral service took a place at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David, located in Victoria Island, Lagos.  In a now viral clip making the rounds on Instagram, the singer was seen visibly controlling his emotions by fighting back tears. Nigerians have  extended their condolences to the music star while wondering why many of his colleagues in the music industry were absent at the funeral service. Yet others speculated that wizkid who's known for his not very sociable relations with his colleagues, did not extend them an invitation.

Wizkid is regarded as one of the biggest and most influential African artists of all time.He began recording music at the age of 11 and released a collaborative album with the Glorious Five (5), a group he and a couple of his church friends formed. Wizkid grew up in an interfaith household with twelve female siblings, his newly deceased mother was a Pentecostal Christian and his father practised Islam. The singer had a close knit relationship with his mother and she often attended his concerts and music events.
