Teacher Charged to Court for Flogging Female Student

 A 43 year old teacher identified as David Yusuf  was on Tuesday 10th October 2023, arraigned at a magistrate court located in the Wuse Zone II area of Abuja, for flogging a student of the Government Girls College, Kuje, FCT. The case was first reported to the police by Henry Lortim, father of the 16 year old who was flogged by the teacher. Mr Lortim alleged that his daughter was assaulted by the defendant who is a temporary teacher at the school, on 2nd June 2023. The aggrieved father via his lawyer, alleged that David Yusuf flogged the victim with an iron rod and inflicted injuries on her palm as well as other parts of her body during night prep.

After the defendant pled guilty to a two count charge of causing grievous harm without provocation and assault, Magistrate Abdulmajid Oniyangi granted bail to the sum of N2 million with two sureties in likes sum that must be residing within the jurisdiction of the court. He ordered that the addresses of the sureties be verified by the court’s registrar before the defendant's release.The magistrate adjourned the case until November 6 for hearing and presentation of witnesses by the prosecution.
