The Benue State Police Command has dismissed a certain Constable identified as Belasa Iyangedue for the alleged rape of a 16 year old teenage girl held in custody at the police station. The State Commissioner of Police Bartholomew Onyeka confirmed the sordid incident to newsmen on Tuesday, October 3, in Makurdi. He also said the dismissed constable raped 16 year old Nguemo Terkaa while she was on detention at the Tse Agbaragba Divisional Police Station, Konshisha LGA of the state. The Commissioner assured that the dismissed officer was already facing prosecution charges in addition to his dismissal.

The victim, Nguemo Terkaa had been detained by the police on 15th August 2023 for defamation and the Constable, in the guise of helping the young girl, took her into his office and raped her. After her release on bail the next day, Nguemo reported the incident to the Divisional Police officer, leading to the arrest of the constable and the case brought to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi.
