The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)has announced its intention to carry on with the nationwide strike action slated to commence on Tuesday, 3rd October. The Labour Congress urged Nigerians to join the strike irrespective of ethnic, religious and political differences. In an Independence Day address to the nation, president of The Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Joe Ajaero stated that the strike action was an opportunity for Nigerians from all walks of life to ask our leaders pertinent questions on why the country is in shambles.

Comrade Joe Ajaero also implored traditional to plead with the government in order to lift the burden on the people. In his words: "We call on all national gatekeepers especially the Traditional Rulers who are the custodians of our customs and traditions and who are closest to the masses thus can feel the degree of suffering in the Country to plead with Government to lift the burden on the people. In making our nation work for the people, the purpose of Governance is fulfilled as anything short of that makes governance predatory."
