The Imo State Chapter of The Nigeria Bar Association, has harshly condemned the alleged assault, humiliation and unlawful detention of one of its members, Chigozie Chinaka. According to the association, Chigozie Chinaka was viciously assaulted by Assistant Commissioner of Police David Ogenyi, of the Police Area Command of Owerri, the state capital. Condemning the alleged police brutality and illegal detention of a member of the association, Chairman of the association, Allinor Ugochukwu, urged IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to wade into the matter and set up an independent panel to investigate the allegations.

Bitterly narrating his ordeal, victim of the alleged brutality, Chigozie Chinaka, revealed that he had been beaten to a pulp and stripped naked by ACP Ogenyi and some officers of the Owerri Municipal Command in the course of performing his legal duty – seeking bail of a client who had earlier been arrested and detained at the police station.
