The Kano State Hisbah has arrested eight crossdressers found dancing at a wedding in Kofar Waika, located in Gwale Local Government Area of the state. Deputy Commander General of Hisbah, Dr Mujaheed Abubakar, disclosed on Tuesday, October 31, that his operatives arrived the wedding and arrested these crossdressers after receiving tip-off from concerned locals who reported that some young men dressed in female Fulani attire were dancing at the venue. Dr Abubakar also revealed that the arrested men(including the groom) all pled for leniency after being charged to the Shari'a Court and vowed to desist from their respective crossdressing activities.

The Kano state Hisbah Corps was established by the state government in 2003 for the purpose of enforcing right and forbidding wrong on every Muslim. Hisbah is an Arabic word which means accountability. Many Nigerians have expressed displeasure at the activities of Hisbah operatives and have also said the Kano state Hisbah Corps has showcased acts of potential human rights violation on a number of occasions. Well-meaning Nigerians have called on the Kano state government to caution the Hisbah Corps on their perceived overzealousness.
