A 40 year man and father of 20 children identified as Muhammed Umar, has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for the alleged rape of a 12 year old girl. The suspect who hails from Gusupan, Toungo Local Government Area of the state, confessed to "have had sex" with the adolescent while claiming that she had "seduced" and enticed him more than three times before he finally agreed to "touch" her. Muhammed Umar who has married four wives and divorced two, said he was willing to take the minor as a bride if her father agreed. Spokesperson of the command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect was arrested on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, after a complaint from the girl’s father.

Narrating her ordeal, the 12 year old revealed that the suspect had lured her by asking her to go bring a kettle from his house while she had been in the middle of running errands for her father. In her words: I went and didn’t see the kettle, but while I was returning, he stopped me and dragged me into a nearby room, and raped me. He held me by the neck and threatened to slaughter me if I dare open my mouth. He told me that last year he had an issue with my father and they were yet to come to terms.”
