A High Court sitting in Enugu on Thursday 26th October, asked the Federal Government of Nigeria and South-East Governors to pay the sum of N8,000,000,000.00 (Eight Billion Naira) to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The Court also mandated the respondents to apologise to Kanu via letters apology and publications in three national dailies, for the infringement on his fundamental rights.
Justice A. O. Onovo of the Enugu State High Court also declared the ban of the Indigenous People of Biafra by the South-East Governors’ Forum "illegal, unconstitutional, and null and void." In 2017, The South-East Governors' Forum, led by former Governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi, banned IPOB activities in their respective states. The development led to the Federal Government listing IPOB as a terrorist organisation three days afterwards.

The court has reaffirmed the hopes of the common man in the judiciary. You have saved thousands of lives.”
