Following the news that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force tear gassed and allegedly shot at Nigerians who had been allegedly returning from the candle night procession which started at the a Lekki Peninsula gate and ended at the Muri Okunola Park in honour of deceased rising music star Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba professionally known as Mohbad, Nollywood actress and producer, Uche Jombo has put up a post on her official social media platform, asking why the victims of the tear gassing and gunshots had gone to the Lekki Tollgate after the candle night memorial ended at the park by 8:00pm. The actress criticized the actions of overzealous mourners who went to the Tollgate by stating ''sometimes as a people we can overdo things".

The Lekki Tollgate has in recent times been considered a "trouble spot" by the Nigerian government as since the EndSARS protest of 2020 which took place at the location and cause still lingering national tragedy, many Nigerians often use the Lekki Tollgate as a place to converge in order to organise rallies and protests which almost always end up on some tragic note as the Nigeria Police often employs various means to disperse the crowd.
