A lengthy press release by the Nigeria Police, the Force has warned against sextortion and the increasing rate of blackmail amongst Nigerians. The Force gave this warning after a 26 year old woman identified as Opara Joan Chizaram was arrested for filming her intimate session with a man she met on a dating app. She had also attempted to financially extort her lover with the video she had recorded without his knowledge.

The press by spokesperson of The Nigeria Police Force ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, further revealed that when Ms Opara's demand for money was unmet by the man she attempted to blackmail, she threatened to expose the intimate video and photos. The press statement confirmed that victim had courageously reported her criminal intention to National Cybercrime Center of The Nigeria Police Force. The Police spokesperson stated that upon investigation, it was discovered that Ms Opara had engaged in similar actions of blackmail and sextortion with other individuals she met via the dating app.
