Video:Singer Asa Stirs Fierce Reactions at The NNPC Relaunch

Popular Nigerian singer Bukola Elemide, better known as Asa, has received widespread commendation for her performance at the the presidential vila, Aso Rock, on Tuesday 20th July, 2022.  The singer was invited to perform at the transition of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. The corporation has fully become a commercial entity that will now be known as The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

Upon invitation to the villa, Asa performed her stinging satirical song There is Fire on the Mountain. The lyrics of the song depict trouble and bloodshed in a country where the government leave the citizens to their own devices. Reports have it that the singer did not acknowledge President Muhammadu Buhari who was in attendance, with a greeting. Asa's choice of all-black clothing was also perceived as a silent message to the government.   Other dignitaries present at the occasion were Senate president Ahmed Lawani, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, NNPC GMD,Mele Kyari, alongside others.

Reports also have it that the singer was given a huge sum of money for her performance at the relaunch and the government was assured of a patriotic song by her manager. However, the singer clearly didn't get the memo and decided to send a message to the government with her choice of song. President Muhammadu Buhari clearly did not like the message judging from his facial expression and has allegedly accused the committee of conniving with the opposition to insult the president. Asa's Manager is said to be on the run as top government officials are eager to have a chat with him.
