Video: Kano Hisbah Shaves Heads of Pedestrians with "Sinful Hairstyles"

 In a video making the rounds on the internet, officers of the Kano state Hisbah Corps are seen shaving heads of male pedestrians deemed to be carrying "sinful hairstyles". Pedestrians caught by the Hisbah officers were shaved until their heads shone. They were thereafter sent off on their merry way.

The Kano state Hisbah Corps was established by the state government in 2003 for the purpose of enjoining was is right and forbidding was is wrong on every Muslim. Hisbah is an Arabic word which means accountability.  Many Nigerians have expressed displeasure with the video that has gone viral and have also said the Kano state Hisbah Corps has showcased acts of potential human rights violation on a number of occasions. Well-meaning Nigerians have called on the Kano state government to caution the Hisbah Corps on their perceived overzealousness.
