Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James Omiyinka, better known as Baba Ijesha has been found guilty of assaulting a 14 year old minor. The actor was given a prison sentence of 16 years by Lagos state judge, Oluwatoyin Taiwo after a two-hour hearing that took place on Thursday, 14 June 2022 at an Ikeja Violence and Sexual Offences Court. The convicted actor stood trial for the rape of a 14 year old minor whose foster mother happens to be popular comedian, Princess. He was first arrested for the offence in April, 2021.
Judge Oluwatoyin Taiwo declared that she found Baba Ijesha guilty of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault and attempted assault, as he failed to prove his innocence beyond reasonable doubt. Baba Ijesha's 16 year prison sentence will run concurrently. This means that the 49 year old actor will be behind bars for 5 years as the judge found him guilty of four count charges of the six brought against him. The judge discharged the actor of counts one and six.

Foster mother of the victim, Princess, has expressed satisfaction and vindication at the judgement. In a TikTok dance video posted on Instagram by the comedian, she attached the caption "God is not Man". Many Nigerians have expressed delight at the judgement handed down to the actor. It is hoped that he will serve as a deterrent to other celebrities who think they can get away with committing dastardly crimes.
