Bola Ahmed Tinubu's origin has been as controversial as his academic qualifications and his wealth.
The former governor of Lagos State claims decades ago to have traced his root to the foremost Late Alfa Muhammad Bugara Tinubu of Lagos. He has incessantly been linked to the family.
However, amidst his presidential ambition, some section of the Tinubu dynasty in a book written and launched in Lagos State on Monday, chronicled the genealogy of the Tinubu's family leaving Bola Ahmed Tinubu out.
The alleged brain behind the book, Mr. Rafiu Babatunde Tinubu, a former Head of Service in Lagos, while speaking on the book, noted that it became necessary as a result of the continual link of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to their family.
He reiterated that those who bear "Tinubu" are required to have biological link to the Late Alfa Muhammad Bugara Tinubu which Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not have.
"All members of their that bears the name must have biological relationship with the cleric, the late Alfa Muhammed Bugara Tinubu."
"Hence, the research into the origin and place of the family became a prominent agenda that kept reverberating at every meeting of the family."

"...I was mandated by the family at its meeting sometime in 1982 under the chairmanship of Papa R.B. King to research into the evolution of the Tinubu family in Lagos in view of my antecedents as a lecturer at the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University."
